 Jer 26:1-9

Gospel Mt 13:54-58

Jesus came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue.

They were astonished and said,

“Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds?

Is he not the carpenter’s son?

Is not his mother named Mary

and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas?

Are not his sisters all with us?

Where did this man get all this?”

And they took offense at him.

But Jesus said to them,

“A prophet is not without honor except in his native place

and in his own house.”

And he did not work many mighty deeds there

because of their lack of faith.

Reflections:

How often do we imagine ourselves to be "good and religious" people. Just because we are regular Sunday Catholics! Do we really believe in the Word that the Lord addresses to us! God always challenges our conscience, inviting us to conversion and a radical change of life. We need an attitude of deep faith and trust in Jesus Christ to want to listen to his word and not be scandalized. True faith sets us in motion, pushes us to a change of life, to a total trust in Jesus Christ that leads us to a radical commitment to fight sin, to charity, to sacrifice, and to stand up for Christian values before others, without fear.

Activity:

Challenge your faith, risking yourself to help someone who is usually shunned by others.
